Nicholas Newby were each posthumously awarded the bronze star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct medal, Iraqi campaign medal with a combat star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary medal and the combat action badge. The soldiers were killed in action July 7 when their convoy was struck by an improvised explosive device outside Camp Victory, Iraq.
