Coeur d'Alene elementary teacher wins $500 for her classroom | People
Elaine Moreen’s fifth grade class had just gotten back from their time at the computer lab. They were about to settle down for their math class when representatives from Spokane Teacher Credit Union waltzed in with a $500 check.
“I’m thrilled!” Moreen squealed over the phone.
“And the students are just super thrilled too,” Moreen added.
Moreen is one of four regional teachers that won an STCU drawing for $500 in classroom grants. Her grant will help her students at Skyway Elementary School enhance their education with much needed supplies that most teachers tend to buy out of their own pocket.
Over 2,000 certified teachers applied for the drawing. Other checks went to schools in Spokane Valley and Mead, Washington and Rathdrum, Idaho.
“I am taken aback with the generosity of STCU,” Moreen said. She continued, “I’ll be doing some investigating. I’m hoping it will benefit the students this year and also next year by either purchasing technology or purchasing novels for book studies.”
This is Moreen’s second career. She’s only been a teacher for two years. Before that she was a stay-at-home mom.
She added: “I finally get to give back what the education community gave to me. It’s a blessing.”
