Scott and Linsey Sowinski had a picturesque wedding complete with firecrackers lighting up the start of their married life. But on the wedding day, Linsey wasn't feeling well.

"Throughout the ceremony and into taking pictures, I really had a hard time breathing," said Linsey.

She didn't get better, but when the couple found out she was pregnant, they thought the pregnancy was the reason she felt ill. However, they didn't know Linsey's body was becoming a cradle not only for their little bundle of joy, but for a cancerous mass that was pressing hard against her heart.

Linsey went through chemotherapy every three weeks while trying to protect her unborn baby.

"It was our understanding that we had the same chances of having a healthy baby as normal pregnancy," said Linsey. "(But) I knew how bad I felt, so it really scared me to think what was going on with her and how (the chemotherapy) would affect her."

Now, one year later, they are a family of three, but Lena's birth didn't come without some complications. She was born May 11, 2012 with no B cells, which help immunity. Lena was treated and she is healthy now.

Linsey is currently being monitored for her cancer. Her last check up was positive, but she is making changes in her life to be as healthy as possible.
