Idaho Supreme Court to consider shooting range appeal | News

The Idaho Supreme Court is scheduled in September to consider an appeal filed by the Idaho Fish and Game as part of the agency's attempt to open a northern Idaho shooting range.

Fish and Game officials tell the Coeur d'Alene Press a district court erred when declining to lift a 5-year-old injunction on the Farragut Shooting Range amid safety concerns.

The 60-year-old gun range in Farragut has been shuttered since 2007 after 1st District Court Judge John Mitchell agreed with nearby residents that bullets were striking their homes.

The state spent about $260,000 to make the range safer, but in August 2011 Mitchell ruled the improvements didn't protect against ricochets.

Fish and Game officials contend the range improvements have met or surpassed the court's requirements.
