The American Cancer Society Bark For Life

Bark For Life is really not about dogs.  It's an event that the American Cancer Society can raise funds and awareness of their continual fight against cancer.  It's an event happening Saturday, August 20 beginning at 10am and running until 2pm.  Bark For Life is a noncompetitive walk where you and your canine friend will have a fun-filled day with a walk, demonstrations, contests and games.  The event takes place at the Life Care Center, 2800 E.

Hecla Meeting Monday To Discuss Settlement

Hecla Mining plans to meet with the public Monday night to discuss a settlement that brings a superfund lawsuit to a close.

The company will pay $263 million for cleaning up mining waste in the Coeur d'Alene basin.

They reached the settlement earlier this year with the U.S. Department of Justice along with the state of Idaho and the Coeur d'Alene tribe.

The discussion is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. at North Idaho College.

Oil Can Henry's “Make a Change for the Cure” fundraiser kicked off Saturday at their various Spokane locations. Their team will be wearing pink hats and bowties to support the mission to fight breast cancer.

The business is pledging to raise $75,000, all of which will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.

Idaho Governor Butch Otter is tired of seeing potatoes get a bad rap.

Several studies, including one recently by the New England Journal Of Medicine, finds eating potatoes regularly contributes to weight gain.

Governor Otter says he's disappointed that one of the most nutrient-dense and affordable vegetables are being singled out when eating just about anything irresponsibly will make you fat.

Alfalfa Sprouts Sicken 19

Kids in Idaho have an excuse not to eat their vegetables tonight.. at least some of them.

The Idaho State Public Health Department recommends not eating alfalfa sprouts from Evergreen Produce, a grower in Moyie Springs, Idaho. It's investigating 19 Salmonella cases in North Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Western Montana. Six of the people sickened report eating sprouts from Evergreen Produce. The Health Department warns people not to eat sprouts from Evergreen Produce and to get rid of any you might have in your refrigerator.
