What would you ask your local candidates?

Election season is gearing up for candidate forums to help voters make their education decision on who they'll be voting for.

Every year, the City of Coeur d'Alene asks the public to submit their own questions for Coeur d'Alene candidates. They can do so online. This year's forum is hosted by Coeur d'Alene school district high schools. Students from government and media classes will be submitting their own questions as well.

To submit a question, go to the city's website and fill out your name, email address and question.

Plummer-Worley schools could see a mascot change later this year

Plummer-Worley schools could see a mascot change later this year

Consolidation for some Plummer Worley schools have brought to light an unexpected issue regarding school spirit.

About two years ago, they switched to a two school system, preschool to 6th grade and 7th grade to 12th grade. That change eliminated the need for a separate middle school.

"At first people didn't like it," superintendent Judi Sharrett said. She continued, "I think people like being apart of the smaller community on the smaller campus."

To promote further unity, the Wellness Center took the lead in changing their mascot from "warriors" to "knights" to be consistent with the high school.

Lake City High School All-Clear Following Bomb Threat

Lake City High School in Coeur d'Alene has been given the all clear following a bomb threat Monday morning.

The school was evacuated after school administrators found a note saying that a bomb was set to go off at the school. Everyone on lockdown was asked to not use cell phones as a precaution in case the potential device was remote controlled and a radio signal might inadvertently trigger an explosion.

Dana Shapland was shocked when she got a text from her son at Lake City High School letting her know the school was locked down.

"I texted him back and asked him if he was OK and I didn't get a reply," Shapland said.

She rushed to the campus and spotted her son in the crowd as they waited to find out what was going on.

Kootenai County offers a new form of notification alerts

Kootenai County offers a new form of notification alerts

Kootenai County Sheriff's Office is offering an updated public safety system that allows residents to sign up for emergency messages through cell phone text and/or voice messages.

You can sign up online for notifications for Amber Alerts and school lock docks.

The text service is provided for most major mobile carriers. Voice alerts is available for all. The Sheriff's Office encourages residents to select text notifications though since this does not interrupt the ability to make phone calls.

You can also register two phone lines in either combination of land line or cell phones.

Land line phone users do not need to register since emergency messages can identify phone numbers in the area of the incident.
