National Doughnut Day - FRIDAY

National Doughnut Day - FRIDAY

This coming Friday will be National Doughnut Day, a national observance the first Friday of June. In 1917 the ladies of the Salvation Army would fry up 5000 doughnuts, this overseas during WW l , then take them out to the battle lines with hot coffee for the soldiers. Often these doughnuts were even cooked in the helmet of a soldier, if not doughnuts homemade foods were delivered by the Salvation Army "Lassies"  to bring comfort to our boys. Many doughnut shops will be giving out a free doughnut to patrons coming by this Friday.
